“This year in Russia there have been more than 40 cases of attacks on journalists and their beatings. Few cases were brought to trial. The Life incident must be investigated, otherwise such incidents will move from the extraordinary to the ordinary, as happened in the neighboring country, where, after the so-called “revolution of dignity,” attacks and murders of journalists have become almost the norm. We cannot allow this to happen here,” said United Russia deputy Evgeniy Revenko.
LDPR MP Vadim Dengin was outraged that the Ukrainian media tried to ridicule the attack on Life reporters
“This is already a political component. Who's playing on this? Maybe there was an order for them?” Dengin suggested.
On the night of November 12, journalists from the Life TV channel were attacked near house 18 on Kievskaya Street by unknown persons who introduced themselves as employees of the criminal investigation department. According to the TV channel, employee Mark Bezymeny had a tooth knocked out, he received several serious injuries to the head and face, and his colleague Vladimir Serenko had a closed craniocerebral injury and a fracture of the facial bone.
The Investigative Committee opened a criminal case for intentional infliction of bodily harm following the beating of journalists. After this, two of the attackers were detained.
