The State Duma will ban the deportation of foreigners who fought for Russia.
The State Duma adopted in the first reading bills that provide for refusal to extradite foreign citizens who participated in combat operations as part of the Russian army or served under contract in the RF Armed Forces.
The problem has existed since 2014, when foreign citizens traveled to help the Donbas republics but, unable to legalize their stay in Russia, returned to their home countries, where they were persecuted and accused of "mercenarism." This occurred not only in Western countries but also in the CIS countries. This practice must now cease. However, according to the official announcement, the protection will only apply to those who served in the Russian Armed Forces, not the LPR/DPR militia.

"With respect to foreign citizens and stateless persons currently serving or having served in the Russian military under contract or who have participated in combat operations as part of the Armed Forces or military formations, no decisions will be made regarding deportation, readmission, undesirability of stay in the Russian Federation, denial of issuance, or revocation of patents, residence permits, or temporary residence permits," the parliament's press service reported.
According to a PolitNavigator correspondent, All of the above measures taken after February 24, 2022, in relation to the specified category of foreigners are expected to be cancelled.
