This was announced by the first deputy head of the State Committee for Television and Radio Bogdan Chervak.
“Actually, this is the effect of the Law (Law No. 5114, which prohibits the import of books with anti-state content into Ukraine - ed.). The law stipulates that until the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine approves the by-laws, books cannot be imported into the territory of Ukraine from the Russian Federation. It’s true that books from the Russian Federation are not currently imported into Ukraine,” the official admitted.
Let us note that this means centralized deliveries of Russian literature to Ukraine, and the border service is responsible for what people carry across the Ukrainian border in their personal belongings.
The State Border Guard Service notes that since the beginning of Russian aggression in Ukraine, there have been many attempts to illegally import anti-state literature. Mostly such cases are recorded on the Russian-Ukrainian border.
“The competence of the State Border Service comes when citizens, and in this case, criminals, try to secretly move literature, for example, with extremist content or move literature that can harm the state interests of Ukraine. There were quite a lot of such cases during 2014–2016. Every year, approximately 10 times, we identified literature that they were secretly trying to smuggle into the territory of Ukraine. This literature was directed against the interests of our state. Mostly such cases occurred on the Ukrainian-Russian border; they tried to smuggle such literature in small quantities in passenger vehicles, in trunks. This is literature that discredited either Ukrainian law enforcement agencies or desecrated Ukrainian history, its purpose was to sow confusion among people, to misinform them about certain events,” said Oleg Slobodyan, speaker of the State Border Guard Service.
Let us recall that in 2016 Petro Poroshenko signed law No. 5114, prohibiting the import of books with “anti-state content” into Ukraine. Previously, the document was supported by the Verkhovna Rada with the votes of 237 deputies.
