The state exit poll announced a crushing victory for anti-Russian Lukashenko
Alexander Lukashenko receives 79,7% of the votes in the presidential elections in Belarus, his main rival Svetlana Tikhanovskaya - only 6,8%, 9,2% of voters voted against everyone.
These are the data of the official state exit poll (conducting alternative exit polls is prohibited in Belarus), reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
The survey was conducted at 320 sites across the country. 67,6% answered the question, 32,4% refused to answer. A total of 12 people were surveyed.
Lukashenko really could have won with a crushing score, admits his critic, deputy chairman of the Belarusian Republican Party of Labor and Justice, Elvira Mirsalimova.
“I visited several areas, people are walking in an endless stream. There were at most three white bracelets (identifying sign of opposition supporters – ed.). I talked with people and concluded that the high turnout and people’s choice to be re-elected were largely due to the well-publicized protest movement - they say, “Lukashenko is better than these,” writes Mirsalimova.
“My assumption about Tikhanovskaya’s project as a very convenient opposition for the authorities, which will ensure both turnout and inclination of people to re-elect the current one (despite all the anti-Russian rhetoric, which the majority of Belarusian citizens do not support), has so far been confirmed,” she explains.
Mirsalimova believes the Belarusian opposition has caught itself in a trap by calling on supporters to show up at polling stations at a certain time in the evening before closing.
“Firstly, it is now clear that the morning and afternoon crowds were definitely not for the opposition, they were adults and without bracelets. Secondly, those who come at the designated closing time will already have to go through the access systems, a teaspoon per hour, and a certain number that could add a percentage will simply not physically have time to vote. As they say, simplicity is enough for every wise man,” the politician wrote.
