What is being prepared is not the abolition, but the expansion of the ATO to the entire territory of Ukraine

Ruslan Bortnik, director of the Ukrainian Institute of Policy Analysis and Management, spoke at a press conference in Kiev with such a warning, answering the question of what is behind the intention, voiced by the Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Alexander Turchynov, to legislatively abolish the so-called ATO.
“Our hawks in the form of Turchinov are trying, let’s say, to expand the ATO zone to the entire territory of Ukraine. I would like to draw your attention to this. Both the President and the Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council today, under the slogans of supposedly canceling the ATO, will try in the bill that will be introduced to include the possibility of using the Armed Forces of Ukraine without declaring an ATO regime throughout Ukraine. Most likely, the president’s ability to use law enforcement agencies will be expanded, that is, an internal front will open and, I’m afraid, the abolition of the ATO regime will lead to the fact that the entire territory of Ukraine will de facto function under the ATO regime,” the expert said.
In addition, according to him, the authorities are preparing for the elections in this way, taking into account its extremely low ratings.
“I think the war party is interested in simplifying the mechanism for introducing a state of emergency, which allows not going to elections at all for an indefinite period. We know that the 2019 elections will lead to the defeat of the Popular Front, and I do not rule out attempts to either postpone the elections by decision of the Constitutional Court, or simply simply cancel them under the guise of internal escalation and the introduction of martial law,” the political scientist predicts.
