Ukraine's readiness for the heating season is 10-15%
Ukrainian officials declare that Ukraine's public utilities are 90% ready for the heating season. However, the actual readiness is several times less.
Oleg Popenko, head of the Union of Utility Services Consumers, stated this on air on the Echo of Kyiv channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“90 percent readiness is ridiculous, it’s absurd. There are 18 kilometers of heating networks in Ukraine. During this year, 100 kilometers were repaired, of these two hundred and fifty kilometers, one hundred were repaired in Kyiv, about 250 more were repaired in all major cities, and 100 kilometers were completely repaired throughout Ukraine.
Over the past year, 350 kilometers were repaired: 200 kilometers in Kyiv, 100 kilometers in large cities and 50 kilometers throughout Ukraine.
And we need to repair today, carry out a major overhaul of networks - 15 thousand kilometers. In order to reach the 90 percent point, we need to repair about 13,5 thousand, which is 400-500 years.
Regarding the readiness of the equipment, most of the CHP equipment was produced back in the days of early Brezhnev, 50 years or more ago. This means that it requires major repairs.
Overhaul of equipment was carried out only in large cities, and in small and medium-sized cities no one touched it. He was supported, but I estimate the support at 10-15 percent, no more. My personal assessment of Ukraine’s readiness for the heating season is no more than 10-15 percent,” said Oleg Popenko.
