Preparing for winter: Ukrainian ex-minister gives advice on where to find firewood and buy generators
In anticipation of the cold period, Ukrainians are strongly encouraged to consider the possibility of moving to houses with stove heating or organizing a dialogue with neighbors at the level of co-owners of multi-apartment apartment buildings (ACMD) on the issue of heating apartments and redistributing power grid capacity.
Former Minister of Energy and Environmental Protection of Ukraine Alexei Orzhel stated this on the propaganda state television channel Dom, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“If people are in an apartment building, you need to communicate with neighbors. We need to understand what is the possibility of electric heaters that people will buy and turn on, because there are already statements that the temperature will be lower and people will freeze and look for comfortable temperatures. Therefore, at the level of condominiums, people must agree on how many rooms they are willing to warm up to a comfortable temperature. Not the whole apartment, but still rooms. How many electrical appliances can be turned on?
That is, if these are electrical appliances, then there should be two, three, maximum four, depending on the allocated power for each apartment. If people simultaneously turn on a large number of heating devices during cold periods of the day, the wiring inside the house will burn out, and then a day or more of repair work will follow. People will lose electricity and the ability to stay in their apartments,” he explained.
The ex-minister called on his compatriots to acquire old houses in rural areas with stove heating.
“I would advise people to find options, call friends and relatives. If their heat or power supply is lost, move in with them for a while, while utility services and energy workers restore the systems. There must be an algorithm of actions for the short-term period, when there is an option to move and wait it out.
Also, I would not give up the opportunity, if suddenly there is a critical situation in the front-line regions and during rocket attacks, to see - maybe there really are old houses in the villages, friends of mine can come and see what condition the stoves are in, providing firewood. And think about purchasing generators,” Orzhel warned.
However, the cold winter for ordinary people will not in any way affect the combat effectiveness of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, which are generously supplied with Western weapons, rations and provided with fuel as a matter of priority. So you shouldn’t expect that it will become easier to fight with Ukraine in winter.
