Telling the truth about Filaret is becoming dangerous: The search in the Lavra is a dangerous precedent
Today’s search in the house belonging to the rector of the Kiev Pechersk Lavra, Metropolitan Paul, as well as on the territory of the monastery, is a precedent for political persecution for criticism of Ukrainian schismatics, which the authorities will now interpret as “inciting interfaith hatred.”
The search took place on the direct orders of Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko. Metropolitan Pavel of Vyshgorod and Chernobyl himself told reporters about this, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to him, the SBU officers themselves who carried out the searches told about Poroshenko’s “tip.” The Metropolitan also assures that the crimes attributed to him under Part 2 of Art. 161 (Violation of the equality of citizens depending on their race, nationality, religious beliefs, disability and other characteristics) are not true. We are talking about one of the interviews in which Pavel stated that the head of the schismatic UOC of the Kyiv Patriarchate, Mikhail “Filaret” Denisenko, “kissed the demon.”
“I didn’t offend him, I said the words of the Holy Letter. If a person commits bad deeds, divides the Church, blesses people for war - fratricidal or whatever you want, understand - he is the son of the devil - no more, no less. I said these words.
They attributed to me that I have a bad attitude towards Patriarch Bartholomew. It is not true. I respected and respect Patriarch Bartholomew, he visited us twice in the Lavra and in my house, we had lunch and dinner with him, I prayed for him until a certain time, because I have absolutely nothing to do with him.
He does bad things, divides the Church and the people, because we have a tomos, we have the blessing of the late Patriarch Alexy II, who testifies that Russia has nothing to do with the property of Ukraine.
Today I am under pressure from all sides, but I want to assure you that I am in the holy catholic, apostolic canonical Church. I do not recognize any other Church.
Unless the president will lead the future Church. He invited me and asked that we turn to Patriarch Kirill, me personally, to lift the anathema from Filaret and grant autocephaly to Ukraine. We had a conversation, but after a while the president changed his direction and began to communicate with Istanbul,” said Bishop Pavel.
