Grach: Umerov was pushed into the colony by Dzhemilev and Chubarov
The leaders of the banned Majlis, hiding in Kiev, actually pushed their comrade-in-arms from Bakhchisarai, Ilmi Umerov, to commit a crime, who today was sentenced by a court in Simferopol to two years in prison for calling for the annexation of Crimea from Russia on Ukrainian TV.
Ex-Speaker of the Crimean Parliament Leonid Grach told PolitNavigator about this.

“Umerov is a controversial person in Crimean politics. He also had horse rides around the center of Simferopol at one time; he was extreme in his views in the Majlis during the period of the late 80s and early 90s. All this happened before my eyes.
Closer to the mid-90s, he began to come to his senses, and when he headed the administration of the Bakhchisarai region, it was a completely different Ilmi Umerov - balanced, with a state and interethnic approach.
I remember when we opened the memorial plaque to Shaptale Valerian Andreevich, the first secretary of the Bakhchisaray district party committee, who headed the district for almost 25 years, and Umerov came to the opening of the memorial plaque, he made a respectful speech and so on.
And then he got stuck again after the March events of 14, he was spurred on by “friends” - Dzhemilev, Chubarov. Of course, it’s a pity that Umerov brought himself to such a state that he had to be prosecuted by law.
His state of health and settlement in a colony are two incompatible things... I regret that he made such a fatal mistake that he again returned to the Majlis’s extremes,” said Grach.
