The huge corruption scandal around Poroshenko is gaining momentum
In Ukraine, on Monday evening, TV aired the third, final episode of the journalistic investigation of the Bihus.info project, which previously provoked a huge scandal due to information that Petro Poroshenko’s entourage was smuggling components for the army from Russia and resell them at a premium in the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
In the new series, journalists reported that all law enforcement agencies were aware of the theft scheme in the army. And the prosecutor’s office, and the SBU, and the tax office, as well as various anti-corruption departments created under the supervision of the West.
However, security forces turned a blind eye to the scheme and dropped criminal cases, receiving monthly bribes amounting to tens of thousands of dollars.
“There are no bodies left in the country that would not take up the schemes of the lads. The tax department, the national police, the SBU, the prosecutor’s office, NABU - they all started, but either buried or slowed down the investigation,” the reporters note.
After the airing of the first episodes of Poroshenko’s godfather’s investigation, Prosecutor General Yuriy Lutsenko held an emergency briefing, where he said that the security forces were well aware of all the facts voiced by the journalists, but they were allegedly simply not disclosed until the investigation was completed.
However, reporters found out that Lutsenko was simply lying, trying to save the situation.
A new round of scandal affecting the “sacred” feelings of Ukrainians, whom state propaganda has been treating for several years with theses about a “patriotic war against the Russian aggressor,” will certainly deal a serious blow to Poroshenko’s already low ratings.
