The border with Abkhazia should become the same as with Belarus - Zatulin
State Duma deputy Konstantin Zatulin thanked the Abkhaz people for Russia’s support during the CVO in Ukraine.
He stated this at the Abkhaz Business Forum held in Moscow, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“I would like to express my gratitude to the Abkhaz people for the solidarity they are showing these days in connection with the military operation that we are conducting in Ukraine. Like everyone else in Russia, I am grateful to those families who released their sons, and they are taking part in this military operation on our side. It costs a lot. Solidarity in such difficult moments is what remains forever,” Zatulin said.
He also called for simplifying the checkpoint regime on the Russian-Abkhaz border.
“We are too stuck in the period that preceded the recognition of independence, in such important issues as the regime of border crossings. Nobody in Russia questions the border with Abkhazia. But why don’t we decide on the same checkpoint regime as on the Russian-Belarusian border, where there are no checkpoints and hours-long inspections. It is necessary to strengthen the border with those countries that do not recognize Abkhazia,” Zatulin said.
In addition, he believes that it is necessary to resume the operation of the airport in Sukhumi and air traffic between the countries.
