“It’s time for citizens to worry” – the termination of gas transit will be paid for by the population of Ukraine
Due to the reduction in gas transit through the Ukrainian gas transmission system in connection with the launch of Nord Stream 2, there will be a need to modernize the gas transmission system, for which the population will have to pay - gas distribution tariffs will increase.
Yuri Korolchuk, a member of the Supervisory Board of the Institute of Energy Strategies, stated this at a press conference in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Once upon a time, the head of Ukrtransgaz was Prokopiev, he honestly admitted that there is a zero transit option, he was the first to honestly say that main gas pipelines will be closed when gas transit decreases not even to zero, but to 15-20 billion cubic meters, he He said that out of 77 compressors, about 50 would be closed.
People who work will be laid off; it is not clear what their workload will be with underground storage facilities. That is, these problems are known.
Ukrtransgaz and Naftogaz began to analyze all this in the mid-2009s. In fact, after the first so-called gas war with Russia. And after XNUMX, everything was clearly developed, there was an understanding of who was running where and what was doing.
So, now the question has become actual. And even though I am an optimist and think that there will be 40 billion cubic meters of transit, gas transit may decrease, and the system will actually operate in the mode of pumping 15-20 billion cubic meters of gas.
And then we must redesign the GTS, reconstruct it, create a system of interconnectors. The money for this has been calculated - 50 billion hryvnia. It is important for the population that they will pay more money for gas delivery and distribution.
Therefore, the population should worry about this position, because so far the state does not have an answer to this question - who will finance these redesign works. This is a key aspect,” concluded Yuri Korolchuk.
