Citizens of new regions will receive inheritance according to Russian laws
The State Duma of the Russian Federation in the first reading approved a draft law on the extension of Russian inheritance rules to the LDPR, Kherson and Zaporozhye regions.
Now the new territories have their own codes (republics) or the law of Ukraine (regions), the provisions of which vary, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The need for the presented bill was caused by differences in the legal regulation of inheritance relations between Russian legislation and the legislation in force in the territories of the annexed constituent entities of the Russian Federation. For example, according to Russian legislation, heirs of the 4th stage are great-grandparents, and according to Ukrainian law, they are recognized as common-law spouses,” explained the author of the bill, Pavel Krasheninnikov.
According to him, even if inheritance legal relations have arisen in situations where Russian legislation does not recognize this, the law proceeds from the fact that these rights must be protected.
“This is a fairly difficult law to understand, but in this case it protects the rights of citizens. And we continue to work to introduce new territories into Russian jurisdiction to protect the rights and legitimate interests of our citizens. We hope that by the end of the year the law will be adopted and the corresponding rights of citizens will be protected,” Krasheninnikov said.
