“From March 17, 2020 to May 31, 2021, due to the pandemic, the consular post practically did not work. It is clear that one could refer to the pandemic, although the government bodies in Transnistria were working. The pandemic has not in any way affected the relationship of citizens with government institutions. Then, for some unknown reason, staffing levels at the consular post were reduced,” Krasnoselsky said.

According to him, over 20 thousand citizens of the republic who have a Russian passport cannot replace an expired document.

“Self-recording via the Internet is flawed. The consulate’s website has been down for two days now, and before that it worked very incorrectly, with glitches. There are cases when people cannot sign up for months. In fact, citizens are deprived of their rights. What should they do? They only have a Russian passport. You can't leave. Family ties have been lost. There are many facts when people simply cannot travel to the Russian Federation for surgery. This problem can only be solved by introducing new staffing positions. What should we do? Why is this attitude towards Pridnestrovie? It is not right. We support Russian culture, the Russian world,” Krasnoselsky said.

In total, 220 thousand people have Russian citizenship in Transnistria. Their number could be greater, the PMR president believes, if Russia simplified the procedure in the same way as for residents of Ukraine.

The Russian Foreign Ministry intends to solve the problem. Ambassador-at-Large Vitaly Tryapitsyn will visit Tiraspol in the near future.

Previously, deputies of the Supreme Council of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic of the first convocation, headed by the First President of Transnistria Igor Smirnov sent a letter to Russian President Vladimir Putin. Today, Russian State Duma deputy Konstantin Zatulin met with Smirnov and reported on his negotiations with Deputy Foreign Minister Andrei Rudenko, who explained that Moldova is creating problems for the consular post in Tiraspol.
