Citizens of Ukraine will not be able to obtain simplified citizenship of the Russian Federation
Under the cover of the coronavirus pandemic, the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs issued an order according to which Ukrainians will not be able to obtain Russian citizenship through a simplified procedure.
This was reported by the press service of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to the document, only three categories can now hope for a simplified procedure: those who received a certificate before 1991, those who received a Russian certificate or diploma after 1991, and citizens of those states where Russian is one of the official languages.
That is, residents of Ukraine who do not have a USSR or Russian certificate will not be able to obtain citizenship through a simplified procedure.
Historian and political scientist Vladimir Kornilov commented on the incident in his Telegram channel.
“So much for “simplification.” Why am I always afraid of this word? In practice, it turns out that any “simplification” ends in complicating the existing rules. State policy is one thing, but the position of an official of the Ministry of Internal Affairs is quite another,” Kornilov was indignant.
