They are rushing to glorify the civil war in Donbass for a new Ukrainian myth
Kyiv, August 08 (Navigator, Mikhail Ryabov) – The Government of Ukraine decided to take up the glorification of the participants of the so-called. Officials believe that new modern heroes will help forget the old dispute about who should be role models - the UPA or veterans of the Great Patriotic War.

The corresponding initiative was announced by Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine Oleksandr Sych.
He connected “the existence of distinct regional identities in Ukrainian society with the presence of various parts of Ukrainian lands under the long yoke of several empires, as well as their desire to rewrite our history to suit assimilation needs.”
“Some Ukrainians, contrary to the official ideology, built their own identity on the heroism of the national liberation struggle, while Soviet propaganda systematically produced the mythology of the Second World War. This led to a split in Ukrainian society along the lines of distinct identities. And only now we have an exceptional chance to correct this situation and, using the heroism of the modern struggle for independence and integrity of the state, to consolidate Ukrainian society,” noted Alexander Sych.
He instructed to streamline and systematize activities to honor individuals who gave their lives for the state sovereignty and state integrity of Ukraine.
“For example, regarding the creation of a register of burial places of deceased ATO participants, individual sectors of military burials in cemeteries, pantheons, standard tombstones, memorial plaques, simplification of the renaming procedure, etc. And then offer local executive authorities detailed recommendations on issues of active involvement in this work of cultural institutions, education, social services and regional media,” the official emphasized.
