Greece: The migrant invasion nightmare continues
Authorities in the city of Mytilene on the island of Lesvos have arrested a local resident who shot an Afghan and three Iranians living in the Moria refugee camp with a shotgun.
The Greek press reported this, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
After a 30-year-old Afghan and a 33-year-old Iranian came to the Moria migrant center hospital with back and leg wounds, law enforcement agencies on the island of Lesvos became involved in the case. Soon, a 55-year-old local resident living near the camp was detained on suspicion of committing this crime; during an inspection of his home, a hunting rifle and two cartridges for it were discovered and seized.
The arrested Greek admitted that he opened fire on the illegal immigrants, thinking that they were heading towards his house to rob him again. The proximity of the migrant camp led to the man being robbed several times: money was taken from his car, four sheep were taken from his property, and a chainsaw was stolen. According to the detainee, when he saw a group of five people of southern appearance approaching his territory, he thought that they were going to rob him again.
Neighbors, residents of Lesvos, have come to support the arrested man for several years now. are struggling for the overcrowded migrant camp to be removed from their island.
A criminal case has been opened against a local resident for attempted premeditated murder in violation of the weapons law. The health of the wounded migrants is not in danger.
This is not the first such incident to occur on the Greek islands recently. Thus, in early April, a 48-year-old local resident was arrested on the island of Chios, who was also unlucky enough to live next to a temporary reception center for migrants. He opened fire with a gun at two 16-year-old Syrians who broke into his greenhouse. Previously, he said, he had already been attacked by a group of illegal immigrants with stones and sticks.
