Gref complained about the gigantic number of criminal cases
Many criminal cases initiated in Russia recently as part of the fight against corruption have a negative impact on the development of domestic business. Chairman of the Board of Sberbank of Russia German Gref stated this today at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.

“Over the past two years there has been a shift in the fight against corruption. These are high-profile and low-profile criminal cases. We got a very interesting effect: corruption at the average level at least remains, but fear of possible prosecution for mistakes has led to people being afraid to make decisions. Positive energy today has been slightly dampened, and negative energy has gone deep underground, and its level has not decreased at all,” Gref said.
He called the number of criminal cases brought against entrepreneurs “gigantic,” a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“They lose confidence in the possibility of exercising entrepreneurial initiative. Entrepreneurial initiative always means mistakes, and a mistake can sometimes result in criminal prosecution,” Gref said.
Russian State Duma deputy Andrei Makarov believes that the omnipotence of security forces has now been established in Russia.
“Today the main thing for a governor, for a businessman, is to have good relations with law enforcement agencies. It is very important to stop the omnipotence of the security forces, but I don’t know how to do this,” Makarov said.
