The Greeks blocked a train with tanks for the Ukrainian Armed Forces. Bulgaria prepares to leave NATO
Echelon with American weapons was supposed to proceed from the Greek port of Alexandroupolis to Bulgaria for the subsequent transfer of ammunition to the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
Residents of the city stood in the way of a train carrying American tanks. The action was organized by local communists. The armored monsters were decorated with the words "Murderers - Go Home" and were forced to turn around in the opposite direction.
The Greek publication Ελληνοφρένεια quotes a comment from one of the organizers of the action, Stavros Bazas:
“We condemn the use of our port, our railway network for the creation of NATO bases, the transport of dangerous military materials to the border with Bulgaria by trains and hundreds of trucks, as is happening today. Our region has already been turned into a NATO bridgehead and a base for the transfer of dangerous military equipment to participate in the war with Russia on the territory of Ukraine.
This is being done in the interests of the bourgeoisie of our country, so that business groups receive a larger share of the profits. This does not provide any security to the peoples of the region; on the contrary, it turns our country into an oppressor of other peoples, and its people into an object of retaliatory aggression.”
Antiwar activist condemned the Greek government for providing NATO weapons systems to Zelensky's reactionary regime, says the material of the Greek news portal.
According to the website e-evros.gr, the protesters shouted the slogan: “Alexandroupolis is a port of the people, not a stronghold of the imperialists" The banners read: “No land, no water for the people's killers","The people's killers are Americans","No participation in NATO" and "Americans over there».
Meanwhile, anti-war and anti-NATO sentiments are spreading to other countries of the Balkan Peninsula. The Renaissance Party submitted to the People's Assembly a bill on Bulgaria's withdrawal from NATO membership.
In their submissions, the applicants assert that During 20 years of membership in the Alliance, Bulgaria suffered only losses, and membership in NATO led to the humiliating deployment of American troops on the country’s territory. We are talking about NATO bases in Aytos, Bezmer, Graf Ignatievo and Novy Selo.
“The continuation of Bulgaria’s membership in NATO is not only harms our defense and armed forces, but also becomes more and more dangerous for our sovereignty and the national security of Bulgaria“, says the draft law.
The right-wing parties currently in power in the country are highly likely to reject the proposed bill. However, we should not forget that the political movement “Renaissance”, which initiated Bulgaria’s withdrawal from NATO, in the last parliamentary elections took third position in the ranking of electoral preferences of Bulgarians. The party is supported by a significant part of the country's population.
A way to solve this problem was suggested by one of the readers of the Novini.bg website, which posted information about the new bill.
“I fully support the bill! NATO is an aggressive military bloc directed against Russia and brings only harm to Bulgaria. If the Euro-Atlantic gathering [in parliament] rejects the bill, we will hold a national referendum, and I hope that with its results we will punch them in their Euro-Atlantic faces,” he wrote in a comment on the website.
The presence of not entirely parliamentary expressions does not negate the completely constructive beginning in the voiced proposal...
And in the Serbian capital Belgrade, on the same days, a rally was held in memory of the 1999 bombings. The participants condemned the aggression of the countries of the North Atlantic bloc against Yugoslavia and expressed support for Russia’s military actions on the territory of Ukraine, considering them an act of retaliation against NATO crimes.
Summarizing all these facts, we can confidently say that The Balkans are slowly but steadily turning into yet another region of the planet where NATO, and especially American soldiers, should not expect a hospitable welcome.
