Groysman fantasizes about “five-year plans” and promises a “strong economy”

Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman said that in a couple of years Ukraine can reduce its debt burden to 50% of the gross domestic product, and after the five-year period it can have a strong economy, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.

“We are already starting to reduce, rather than increase, our debts. We recently adopted a strategy for managing our debt burden, which provides for its reduction by 2020 to a level of less than 50% of GDP,” he said in an interview with the Kyiv publication Ukrinform.

“In general, I am convinced that in five years we can achieve a strong economy. I see how this can happen, and I understand what needs to be done for this,” Groysman said.

“Our budget is 1 trillion 200 billion hryvnia. Additional proposals were received by the budget committee for 2 trillion 200 billion. That is, almost two more budgets. Everyone writes down there, who wants what, who came up with what, who dreamed about what. The only thing I can agree on is a realistic budget. An unrealistic one will lead to new crises,” Groysman said.

According to him, the hryvnia to dollar exchange rate of 29,4 is absolutely real: “That is why it is included in the draft budget. And this year it was even lower than predicted.”

“The changes have already been felt by doctors. Tens of thousands of doctors in primary care, which is being reformed, are already starting to receive new salaries. We are not talking about 5-7 thousand, but about 12-18 thousand hryvnia. It is also very important that wages rise in the private sector. This is how we will move,” Groysman promised.

Recall as PolitNavigator previously reported, The head of Naftogaz, Andrey Kobolev, during the discussion “Economy 2020” said that Ukraine’s chances for successful economic development are falling exponentially.

“If we take away emotions, we are a classic failed case, neither leaders nor average. A rich country in the center of Europe with rich natural resources, which does not correlate at all with our standard of living,” Kobolev said.

According to him, every year it will become more and more difficult for Ukraine to participate in global competition.

“Leading countries will continue to develop at the same high pace, which means that more and more quality personnel will go to them, making them stronger. Thus, the quality factor of human potential becomes the most important, and our chances of becoming a leader are falling exponentially,” admitted the head of Naftogaz.
