Speaking at today’s meeting of the National Reform Council chaired by the President of Ukraine, Groysman said that a bill to amend the Constitution of Ukraine in terms of limiting parliamentary immunity is being considered by the relevant Committee on Legal Policy and Justice.
At the same time, the speaker considers it necessary to simplify the procedure for depriving immunity, “since the procedure provided for by law is so difficult that it can take weeks.”
“For example, if there is real evidence of a crime, it is necessary to solve it immediately, take the MP under control so that he does not disappear anywhere, and thus very quickly everyone will begin to understand that responsibility is very close,” he emphasized.
“Therefore, I will offer the deputies a solution in which the removal procedure will be very quick: there is an idea, we must quickly consider, make a decision, take control of the MP, and then the law enforcement system will show its effectiveness,” he emphasized. “But here we also need responsibility from the prosecution so that this mechanism does not turn into persecution.”
Previously, he said, “they could hide behind parliamentary immunity for any crime.” Yesterday's vote for consent to the prosecution, detention and arrest of People's Deputy of Ukraine Igor Mosiychuk, Groysman emphasized, allowed “to take the first step in the fight against corruption within parliament.”
