The corresponding bill was approved at a government meeting on Wednesday, the Government Portal reports.
The government proposes to create the necessary legislative framework for cooperation with the tribunal before Ukraine ratifies the Rome Statute of the ICC.
In particular, a separate chapter is being introduced into the Criminal Procedure Code regulating cooperation with the International Criminal Court.
Such cooperation involves Ukraine taking, at the request of the Hague Tribunal, the necessary measures to assist in the investigation of crimes falling under its jurisdiction.
We are talking about legal assistance, arrest and transfer to court of persons suspected of crimes.
The bodies that cooperate with the ICC are the Prosecutor General's Office and the Ministry of Justice.
According to the bill, Ukrainian government agencies are required to fulfill requests from the Hague Tribunal within the established time frame and in compliance with all procedures.
At the same time, it has been established that within a month after receiving a message that the Hague Tribunal has begun to investigate a crime within the jurisdiction of Ukraine, the Prosecutor General's Office has the right to ask the court to transfer this case to Ukrainian law enforcement officers for investigation.
If the ICC refuses to transfer the case to Ukraine for investigation, the Prosecutor General's Office has the right to appeal this decision to the court secretariat within 5 days.
