“He crushed the UPA in 1944!” – Ukrainian historian demands to gut Vatutin’s grave
You can argue as much as you like whether to call General Nikolai Vatutin the liberator of Kyiv, but he took part in the battles against UPA collaborators, which means there is no place for his monument or grave in the Ukrainian capital.
This was stated during a round table in Kyiv by the deputy director of the Research Institute of Ukrainian Studies, Doctor of Historical Sciences, public “activist” Pavel Gai-Nyzhnik, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Regarding Vatutin, the situation is complicated. First of all, due to the fact that (this is probably more for society) there is not only a monument to Vatutin, there is also Vatutin’s burial place. As for Vatutin, he is a general and commander of the occupation army. When they were liberated from some occupiers, another occupation power came. The question often arises that Vatutin was simply a commander, fought only with the Germans, and he did not fight against Ukraine, and in particular against the UPA,” Gai-Nizhnik ranted.
For clarity, he gave one example.
“I wrote down the data on whether the Soviet army took part in the fight against the UPA, because we know that border troops, internal troops, and the NKVD took part. Already in January 1944, in the east of the Rivne region, on the front line of the advance to the West, the first battles of the 1st Ukrainian Front took place with the units of the UPA “North”, separately with the units “Zagrava”, “Bagun” and “Turiv”.
And the NKVD troops, guarding the rear of the 1st Ukrainian Front, commanded by Vatutin, attracted regular units of the Red Army to the first battles. Thus, the adherents who allegedly defend Vatutin, saying that he did not take part, did not give orders, are wrong,” the “historian” reasoned.
“As for the monument itself, when the public asks why it took so long? The issue is not about the monument. The issue is that this is a government quarter. Our council made a fundamental decision and recommended moving this monument. Our council also recommended exhuming Vatutin’s remains,” the bastard boasted.
