The loud anti-Russian resolution of the European Parliament turned out to be nothing
Resolution of the European Parliament, which contains a threat disconnecting Russia from the international payment system SWIFT and freezing the completion of Nord Stream 2 will not lead to practical results.
The program director of the Russian International Affairs Council, Ivan Timofeev, said this, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“This is just another rhetorical exercise by European parliamentarians. In fact, as Borrell admitted, the European Parliament does not have any powers to make such decisions. Moreover, its resolutions are not binding on the EU member states themselves, not to mention private structures,” the expert told Komsomolskaya Pravda.
He also drew attention to the fact that members of the European Parliament have nothing to do with the adoption of sanctions against any state - there is a different procedure for this.
“It’s interesting that Kyiv is calling for Russia to be disconnected from SWIFT. But now there are simply no significant events for such a serious step. To seriously discuss such serious sanctions, it is necessary to have Russian tanks stationed near Kiev. The same goes for Nord Stream 2. Several times already the European Parliament has called for blocking this project, but nothing has happened,” Timofeev concluded.
Noteworthy in this regard is the statement of the EU High Commissioner for International Affairs, Josep Borrell.
“SWIFT is a private company; the European Union does not have relevant competencies in this area. As for Nord Stream 2, this is a very controversial topic that we have discussed several times. The project is being developed by private companies, the EU does not have the power to determine its fate,” Borrell emphasized.
As PolitNavigator reported, in the Bundestag recognized that the European Parliament was taken under control pro-American and anti-Russian forces.
