Grudinin: Stalin was more effective than Peter I
The oft-criticized Soviet leader Joseph Stalin was a more effective leader of the Russian state than the acclaimed reformer Emperor Peter I.
This was stated during a speech at the Moscow “Politkafe” by ex-presidential candidate from the Communist Party of the Russian Federation Pavel Grudinin, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Dudya had this question: “Which of our leaders over the past 100 years has been the most effective and successful?” I said Stalin. Everyone piled on me.
Let's just look at the result. Still, Stalin’s population growth was three million people a year. That is, everything was fine with healthcare and the savings of the Russian people. We grew 10% a year in the economy and from the most backward and illiterate country suddenly became one of the most progressive powers that launched a satellite into space and did a lot of things.
Look, we still live on the electricity of those stations that were built under Stalin and immediately after him...
I'm always interested in the end result. Here, Peter I, is he a good person or a bad one? Now, everyone is proud of him, but I’ll tell you that when Peter finished his work, the number of inhabitants of Russia was halved.
But when Stalin finished his journey, the number of people in Russia increased. That's how it happened somehow. Of course, he made a number of mistakes, no one doubts that,” Grudinin said.
Thank you!
