Oleg Panfilov, professor at Ilia State University (Georgia), said this at a press conference “Countering Russia’s information aggression: Ukraine’s experience for Europe” held in Kyiv.

He said that in August 2008, Georgia turned off all Russian news channels

“Then, when there was a change of power, the partly pro-Russian Georgian Dream coalition came to power, which turned on Russian channels again,” Panfilov said. “But we don’t see much impact.” This is due, firstly, to the fact that in Georgia there is no fifth column, we do not have a Russian-speaking population, as in the Baltic countries and, unfortunately, in a significant part of Ukraine. Therefore, there is little point in influencing the population of Georgia with the help of Russian propaganda.”
