Georgian professor: The EU will have a bad taste because of Ukraine’s refusal to accept migrants
Sounded from the Bundestag proposal to Ukraine to host migrantsto defuse the crisis on the border of Poland and Belarus is a difficult task for Kyiv.
Nika Chitadze, a professor at the Black Sea University of Georgia, told PolitNavigator about this.
“We know that at this stage Ukraine is experiencing not only political, but also economic crises. Accordingly, it will be extremely difficult for Ukraine to accept illegal migrants from Iraq or African countries and provide them with appropriate housing, food, and so on.
Yes, a member of the Bundestag made a statement, and in Kyiv these words were received extremely negatively, but, again, the most important component was not said - will any financial resources be allocated as part of this assistance from the European Union to Ukraine? As far as I know, there is no talk of this monetary compensation yet, everyone is silent.
Even if the European Union allocates financial resources to Ukraine, and the authorities decide to accept refugees on their territory, this will create some chaos in the country itself. We know how much crime is committed by refugees who are already in Europe,” the expert said.
In his opinion, the Ukrainian authorities will explain to Europe the impossibility of accepting migrants.
«I think that now Ukrainian politicians will explain to Europeans that they themselves are in a very difficult situation. I don’t think that this will spoil Ukrainian-European relations, but the Europeans will still have a bad feeling (after a possible refusal to accept refugees), ”summed up the Georgian professor.
