Georgian journalist: “The Saakashvili factor” has not meant anything for a long time now.”
Former Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili, who was arrested after illegally entering the country, does not have many supporters left.
The PolitNavigator correspondent reports this, as stated by Gruzinform editor-in-chief Arno Khidirbegishvili.
The “Saakashvili factor” has not meant anything in Georgia for a long time. What is happening in the country after his return is revenge from his inner circle in an attempt to carry out another revolution in order to avoid going to prison. There are criminal cases against each of his supporters. Saakashvili does not have the electorate that he claims. Only hundreds of people come to the rallies, and those who vote are bribed - with money or false promises. As for the upcoming opposition protests, they don’t have the resources to gather “all of Georgia” in Freedom Square in two days,” Khidirbegishvili told Izvestia.
At the same time, Russian expert circles are convinced that as long as Georgia is in a situation of permanent internal political crisis, any progress to improve relations between Moscow and Tbilisi will be blocked.
“Not a single Georgian politician can make significant decisions on this issue: if someone wants to restore relations with Moscow, they will immediately tell him that he is a “Kremlin agent” and a “traitor,” says Nikolai Silaev, a leading researcher at the MGIMO Institute of International Studies .
