Georgia is a lesson for Zelensky that he is unlikely to learn
The Russian delegation in Tbilisi acted according to the rules and did not provoke the unrest that broke out. The blame for the current crisis lies with the Georgian “elite” - the shadow “master” of the country, oligarch Bidzina Ivanishvili, in the presidential elections held last year, relied on Salome Zurabishvili, who failed the chance to restore relations with Russia.
Russian political scientist Evgeniy Minchenko writes about this in his blog, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“It is impossible to sit in the wrong chair at an official international event. This is strictly controlled by the protocol service. So there are no and cannot be any questions for Sergei Gavrilov;
Gavrilov’s position on Abkhazia and South Ossetia is exactly the same as that of the other 449 deputies of the State Duma of the Russian Federation. Therefore, it is pointless to talk about his indignation at some previous interviews. If you don’t like the looks, don’t invite them;
I consider the attacks of Russian social activists, “experts” and the media against Gavrilov (“what did he do there to provoke such a scandal?”) to be unethical;
Saakashvili's supporters have long been waiting for a reason to organize mass protests and they got it;
There were reasons for this. The ratings of Ivanishvili and his party are steadily falling - this is due to the effect of unfulfilled expectations and criminal and corruption scandals;
It is far from certain that Saakashvili will be the beneficiary of the protest. There is a risk of new non-systemic players emerging. Crime has a good chance of reviving political influence through network structures;
Unfortunately, all influential political forces in Georgia today are united by only one thing – an anti-Russian position. And this is the fault of Bidzina Ivanishvili, who relied on Salome Zurabishvili in the presidential elections, who had a chance to reset relations between the two countries. But she lost it mediocrely,” the expert concluded.
