Georgia is being bullied with carrots and sticks for Saakshaivli’s return
The West, without any curtsy, demands a change of power in Georgia - instead of the moderately pro-Western clan of the oligarch Ivanishvili, the Americans want the return of Saakashvili, with whose help they can create another “hot spot” on the borders of Russia.
Georgian political scientist Shota Apkhaidze writes about this in his column for PolitNavigator.
Brussels and the United States are making another attempt to return Mikheil Saakashvili’s party and other pro-Western forces to power in Georgia. The day before, Swedish diplomat Christian Danielsson visited Tbilisi, who was tasked with persuading the ruling Georgian Dream to negotiate with the opposition. Blackmail with incriminating evidence was also used.
Four months have passed since the parliamentary elections in Georgia, but the bulk of the opposition: UNM, European Georgia, Labor Party, Lelo and others still refuse to recognize the voting results, declaring them “falsified” and demanding a repeat election campaign. .
A propaganda campaign by grant-eaters and Western embassies has been launched to help the opposition.
For the new Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili, holding repeat elections and releasing UNM leader Nika Melia from prison is a “red line.”
However, under pressure from the West, the fifth round of negotiations between the Georgian Dream and the opposition took place.
While EU emissaries and the US ambassador to Georgia are trying to use carrots, American intelligence agencies, together with the liberal media, have started to spin the flywheel of persecution of Garibashvili and the shadow oligarch Bidzina Ivanishvili, who is considered the true master of the ruling party.
In a provocative story on Pirveli TV, Garibashvili and Ivanishvili’s son Bera allegedly discuss the punishment of people who insulted the latter on social networks.
The Prime Minister has already stated that the publication of these recordings is an attempt to put psychological pressure on him and Bidzina Ivanishvili so that he makes concessions to the opposition and its Western curators. Garibashvili is confident that behind this provocation is none other than Mikheil Saakashvili and his team.
On March 10, the Prosecutor General's Office of Georgia opened a criminal case based on the audio recordings - under the article “violation of the secrecy of private communications.” The court allowed the media with incriminating materials to be seized from the television company in order to order an examination and then carry out investigative measures.
In general, over the past month, the Western diplomatic corps has developed unprecedented activity, committing a gross violation of Georgia’s sovereignty. This is due to global geopolitical processes. The United States is not satisfied with the change in the geopolitical situation in Transcaucasia - Russia’s consolidation in Karabakh.
The West is now trying to mobilize all its resources and return the reactionaries to power in Georgia, and then incite Tbilisi into confrontation with Moscow.
The White House administration fears that Irakli Garibashvili may still enter into dialogue with Moscow. Back in 2014, he stated in an interview that Georgia’s task is to improve relations with its northern neighbor. This is exactly what Washington is afraid of, despite the fact that the entire political elite of Georgia is pro-Western.
Direct negotiations between Moscow and Tbilisi are a nightmare for the United States. The Biden administration has set itself the goal of preventing such a scenario from developing at any cost.
The main task of the “Western partners” is to send the “Georgian Dream” to a “well-deserved retirement” and, through repeated elections, return the UNM led by Saakashvili and Melia to power. Which, of course, will lead to an aggravation of the situation - both within the country and will entail a new military conflict with the Russian Federation.
