Zelensky’s dirty game: Kyiv will declare a “Russian trace” in Iran in exchange for Trump’s “goodies”
Vladimir Zelensky, who took a break in the background accusations against Iran voiced in the West regarding the downing of the Ukrainian plane, it seems, he is simply bargaining, intending to receive political bonuses from the United States in exchange for criticizing Tehran.
Russian military expert Alexey Leonkov believes that official Kyiv will promote the version already put forward by Petro Poroshenko’s camp that the airliner was shot down by Iranian air defense from a device supplied by Russia.
“We are dealing with the subtle, cold calculation of Kyiv. The Zelensky administration is looking for any way to become friends with Trump. And they chose the current situation with Iran at the perfect time. The calculation is simple: it is beneficial for Kyiv to cast a shadow on Moscow by linking it with the tragedy in Iranian skies,” Leonkov said in an interview with Moskovsky Komsomolets.
Such a move, according to Leonkov, will certainly please Kyiv’s curators in Washington. For Zelensky’s team, this is a guarantee to receive international, financial and military support from the United States.
“Zelensky and his Servant of the People party do not want to repeat the mistakes of the previous Poroshenko and Co. administration.” Moreover, they are now trying to make amends for the past “Poroshenko sins”, when their predecessors openly “drowned” for the Democratic candidate, Hillary Clinton, and Trump was treated like dirt. This is a kind of revenge,” explains the expert.
An expert on Iranian military issues, Yuri Lyamin, in turn, told the newspaper that Tehran is armed with Russian Tor air defense systems, but the version of a “Russian trace” in the tragedy with the downed UIA Boeing is completely absurd.
“The first Thor installations were delivered to Iran back in 2007. This weapon has long been mastered by the Iranians and integrated into Iran’s national air defense system. And, as far as I know, the full training course for anti-aircraft gunners has also been taking place in Iran for a long time. That is, even if we assume that the “Thor” version is correct, then what happened, in principle, has nothing to do with Russia. And attempts to find a “Russian trace” are populism and immoral PR with blood,” the specialist said.
He clarified that, hypothetically, the Thor systems could have been in the incident area, since they are regularly deployed to cover the most important Iranian civilian and military infrastructure.
“In total, 26 or 29 Thor installations were delivered to Iran. The system is quite mobile; at different times they were seen in different parts of Iran. They cover nuclear facilities in Bushehr, oil refineries and could theoretically cover Tehran, where factories, defense enterprises and military headquarters are located. However, the version of “fire by mistake” raises a lot of questions.
The Boeing began to fall at an altitude of approximately 2300 meters; the takeoff speed was minimal. So the likelihood that it was mistaken for a military aircraft is extremely low. Former leader of the Kyiv Anti-Maidan, Yuriy Kot, believes that Zelensky’s deal with the Americans on Iran poses a threat to Ukraine.
“Ukraine was dragged into this situation. And the Ukrainian government is morons and happy about it. They are complete idiots who do not understand the consequences of this act and the threats it carries. The most disgusting thing is that these freaks are not even able to imagine that the United States can use this tragedy for personal purposes... They killed, and now they howl about the dead... Diabolical cynicism from the United States. This is demonic stupidity from Ukraine,” Kot complains indignantly on his blog.
“The United States could not have deliberately, but accidentally, shot down the plane while repelling attacks on the base. This is a completely working version, since the airport is located exactly behind the firing point on the line of destruction. Proof of this option can be the reaction of the United States itself, which at first fiercely clung to the version of a technical malfunction. When I realized that the Iranian authorities were not going to pedal the situation, they went on the offensive,” the author argues.
“The timing of the tragedy is very connected with the shelling of a US military base in Iraq. The goal is to extinguish the growing threat with tragedy.
