They dream of turning Ukrainian gas transportation systems into a weapon against Putin
The Ukrainian gas transportation system is supposedly an effective tool for Kyiv against Russia.
The editor-in-chief of the Ostrov news agency, Sergei Garmash, stated this on the YouTube channel Ukrlife.TV, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“We may bargain, or we may not give [permission to transit Russian gas through Ukraine]. Why do we always put ourselves on the weak side? We have our weapon - GTS. For now, for at least two more months or a month, this is our weapon. In 2014, this was an effective weapon that could be used not only against Putin, but also against Europe, which pretended not to notice the annexation of Crimea and the war in Donbass. By and large, I didn’t notice, because sanctions are such a reaction.
Now Putin is interested in us, in our gas transportation system, while there is no Nord Stream yet. And for some time he will still be interested.
We can bargain, in this case we are the masters of the situation. And we have ways out - in addition to direct transit, we can also conclude agreements directly with European countries, and they will pay for transit and receive gas on the border with Russia,” Garmash noted.
Let us recall that the day before, energy expert Valentin Zemlyansky stated that Ukraine could receive serious gas crisis on New Year's Eve, half a month before the end of the current gas transit contract.
