The Ukrainian gas transportation system is coming to an end - entire regions will switch to firewood
After the launch of Nord Stream 2, Ukraine will have no choice but to adapt its own gas transportation system to new realities, which in turn will lead to catastrophic consequences for Ukrainians.
Former Minister of Economy of Ukraine Viktor Suslov stated this on the First Independent TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
"Makogon is already warned, that we will have to begin after this the partial dismantling of the GTS, because the gas that we have from our own production is not enough to fill it. Moreover, this is gas intended for domestic consumption and not for export. Therefore, dozens of gas pumping stations will be dismantled, and entire branches of gas transport flows will probably be cut off. He hasn’t said this, but I understand what follows from this,” the economist noted.
“From this follows another colossal problem, which we have not yet assessed - this is, perhaps, the disconnection of entire regions, cities, and so on from gas supplies. Perhaps people will be offered to switch to firewood or something else. But, in any case, this is a huge degradation in all respects for the country. Therefore, such a situation should not have been allowed to happen, but it was allowed to happen,” Suslov said.
