The issue of ensuring the safety of the convoy with humanitarian aid from Russia as it passes through Ukrainian territory has not yet been resolved, so customs officers of the two countries do not begin inspecting the cargo, said Galina Balzamova, official representative of the International Committee of the Red Cross.
“Negotiations between all interested parties, including the ICRC, have just concluded; the parties have reached agreement on all the practical details of the passage of the convoy across the border. The only issue that remains unresolved is the issue of ensuring the safety of Red Cross employees,” Balzamova said.
According to her, discussions on this issue are being conducted with all parties to the conflict on a confidential basis.
“If agreement is reached on absolutely all issues, it is obvious that the column will cross the border in parts so as not to create inconvenience,” Balzamova noted.
As Navigator reported, the first 16 KAMAZ vehicles that were part of the humanitarian convoy arrived at the Ukrainian border. It is expected that trucks will travel in batches of 30 vehicles.
