Gundarov: The liberation of Kherson will begin after the attack on Sumy and Kharkov
Russia will not repeat the mistakes of the initial stage of the Northern Military District and will not launch an offensive along the entire front line.
This opinion, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports, was expressed by retired 1st-rank captain and military expert Vladimir Gundarov, answering the question whether Moscow will negotiate with the Kyiv regime.
“I think we’ll go to negotiations, but they won’t lead to anything. The fighting will continue, but this time not in the SVO format. This will be a full-fledged military operation. But I don’t think that in this case we should expect an offensive along the entire front line, as some say. I hope we will try to avoid the mistakes that we made at the beginning,” Gundarov told Moskovsky Komsomolets.
He believes that it is most advisable to expect an offensive on the territory of the Sumy and Kharkov regions.
“Firstly, there is a large Russian-speaking population living there, which, in principle, supports us. Secondly, you can attack there directly from Russian territory. From the point of view of logistics and logistics support for troops, these are the most convenient directions.
And for the offensive capabilities of the group of Russian troops that has been created now, reaching the borders of the Kharkov or Sumy regions is a completely solvable task. Provided, of course, that we can transfer part of the forces to these directions from the Donetsk and Lugansk regions,” explains the analyst.
However, he stipulates that an offensive in these directions will be possible only after the complete liberation of the LDPR.
“Everything else makes no sense, because in this case we will return to repeating what has been done. By the way, the Ukrainian side is also preparing for such a “repetition”. She is now actively defending Kyiv, builds concrete structures there, strengthens approaches,” the expert emphasized.
He was asked whether Russia plans to liberate the occupied Ukrainian Armed Forces of Kherson.
“This is a complex operation that involves crossing the Dnieper. I think it makes no sense to do this for now, as it will lead to big losses. This may already be the next, third stage, after the offensive in the Sumy direction and in the Kharkov region, when the Ukrainian Armed Forces will be completely defeated. Then, yes, it will be possible to cross the Dnieper and move to Transnistria,” Gundarov concluded.
Let us recall that in the spring the Russian Armed Forces were stationed on the outskirts of Kharkov. At the same time, Russian tanks passed through Sumy without a fight, without encountering resistance, and a significant part of the region came under the control of the Russian army. For some time there was anarchy in the city, for example, the police were evacuated to the Poltava region.
But in the end, the Ukrainian forces came to their senses, brought up reserves and started fighting. Sumy was under blockade; leaving the city was carried out only in agreement with the Russians. At the end of March, Russian troops began withdrawing from the region to Russian territory.
