Human Rights Watch: SBU continues to deny the existence of secret torture chambers and prisons
The SBU refuses to admit the existence of torture chambers and places of illegal detention of people, despite the specific facts cited by human rights activists. Tatyana Lokshina, senior researcher at Human Rights Watch for Europe and Central Asia, stated this at a press conference in Kyiv.

According to her, the department negatively responds to requests from human rights organizations.
“As for the letter that we sent jointly at the beginning of June this year, where we provided details of specific cases and asked quite detailed questions, in particular about the possible presence of illegal places of detention on the territory of SBU units in places such as Kharkov, Mariupol, we referred to specific places. And in response to that letter we were told that “no, the SBU has exactly one place of detention, legal, registered - this is a detention center, which is located in Kyiv.” “We,” they wrote to us, “don’t hold any people anywhere and we don’t have any information on the cases you’re talking about,” Lokshina said.
