“And this is just the beginning” – Sandu flies to Kyiv for the first visit
Moldovan President Maia Sandu took it for granted that Russian President Vladimir Putin was the first to congratulate her on her election in the recent elections.
She stated this in an interview with Deutsche Welle, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“This is normal between countries that want good relations between them,” Sandu said.
According to her, Moldova has a rather serious agenda in relation to the Russian Federation.
“We have a lot of issues that we need to work on. I spoke about this during the election campaign. These are things that people told us about in the campaign. This is, firstly, trade. We want to fully restore our exports to Russia. These are also the problems of the people who work there. We need to create good conditions for them, solve social security issues for those who have worked there for many years.
And, of course, there is the problem of the Transnistrian conflict. These are the most serious things on our agenda. I hope that there will be good relations between us, and I will do everything to resolve these issues,” Sandu said.
She promised to immediately accept an invitation to visit Russia if one were received.
At the same time, Sandu stated that she sets herself the task of achieving independence from Russian gas and Transnistrian electricity.
“I set myself and the government the task of ensuring that we do not have monopolies, that our energy sector does not depend on only one source. The Iasi-Ungheni gas pipeline must be completed on the Romanian side. But not only that. I’m talking about both gas and electricity – so that the country does not depend on one source,” Sandu said.
She intends to make her first foreign visit to Kyiv at the invitation of Vladimir Zelensky.
“And this is just the beginning,” Sandu emphasized.
