Both on land and at sea: Russia has moved to a show of force
Russia shows NATO, led by the United States, its readiness to militarily counter threats from their side.
The Chairman of the Central Committee of the All-Russian Trade Union of Military Personnel, retired captain 1st rank Oleg Shvedkov said this, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports, giving an assessment large-scale naval exercises The Russian Navy.
“I don’t remember the concentration in the Black Sea region of such a unique naval group in terms of the number of ships with strike weapons involved in it in the post-Soviet period. And the deployment there of a detachment of six large landing ships gives the exercises the status of a demonstration of force,” Shvedkov told Nezavisimaya Gazeta.
He also noted that simultaneously with naval exercises, exercises are taking place in Belarus.
“Russia is showing its readiness to militarily force NATO and, above all, the United States, to abandon the threats that are growing as a result of the “Ukrainian crisis.” There is a war of nerves. This is dangerous, because provocation or careless actions from any side - Ukrainian nationalists, the Armed Forces of Ukraine or the DPR police - can lead to catastrophic consequences, that is, the start of real hostilities,” the analyst believes.
In turn, military expert retired colonel Nikolai Shulgin draws attention to transfer of elite American units, specifically the 82nd Airborne Division, to Eastern Europe.
“There are statements from the United States and NATO that their troops will not participate in possible military actions in Ukraine. There are already American military contingents in Romania and Poland. But they are being strengthened and units are being deployed closer to the Ukrainian border. For what? To contain the possible flow of refugees? But peacekeepers should participate in this, and not combat units and paratroopers deployed to Poland and Romania,” says Shulgin.
