Both ours and yours: the Odessa court made a half-hearted decision in the case of the monument to Catherine II

And what can I tell you, young man, for our Court of Appeal? – As it turns out, it is not the stupidest court in the country. Today, the repeatedly postponed meeting on the claim of a certain organization of home-grown “Cossacks” - “Sich” - has finally been completed. These first-generation “Odessyts” demanded the cancellation of the previous verdict of the Primorsky Court, which recognized the removal of the monument to the Potemkinites from Catherine Square as formally illegal, but left the main issue - the demolition of the monument to the great empress and her associates - the founders of Odessa - restored on this site, which was left to the discretion of the city authorities . The City Council and Mayor Trukhanov have more than once spoken out categorically against repeating the vandalism of the Bolsheviks, who destroyed the beautiful creation of the architect Dmitrenko and sculptor Edwards shortly after the final establishment of Soviet power.

And so, the decision has been made, and it confirms the previous one. That is, yes, there were some formal violations, but whether or not to destroy the revived beauty and pride of Odessa is up to our elected representatives, and not some sent by Bandera Cossacks, to decide.

You should have heard the nonsense their representatives spouted during the process! No satirist could come up with this on purpose! Starting with the repetition of illiterate nonsense that our city was not even founded by Catherine, but by a Lithuanian prince 600 years ago (why then not by the ancient Greeks or Genoese, whose ports were also in this place much earlier?!), local comedians -self-taught people tried to prove that even after the empress’s decree, she did nothing for Odessa. Such a “trifle” as the conquest of most of the current territory of Ukraine is not taken into account. And in general, if it weren’t for her and her heirs, then the flow of all these “arriving” Greeks, Italians, French and other foreigners would not have poured here. And there would be such a vast Ukrainian “mysto”, and not this extremely dubious, cosmopolitan and unpatriotic Odessa.

Really, you’re amazed how you can live in this city with a truly European culture, which developed long before all the Maidan attempts at “Europeanness,” and still hate it so much! With such stupid peasant tenacity to strive to reshape and mutilate what was the pride of the empire and the heritage of world civilization! And what were the references to Kerensky, who allegedly approved the possible demolition of the same monument, and to Lunacharsky, who did approve it! Truly, once again you are convinced: “maidan thinking” is a peculiar form of schizophrenia, trying to combine things that are completely incompatible in principle. After all, the very idea of ​​“reverse transfer” of the Potemkin monument also falls under the inquisitorial “law on decommunization.”

Of course, it’s too early to calm down. And those true patriots of Odessa who have gathered again both in the courtroom and under its walls understand this. There are still possible appeals to a higher court ahead. And no one can rule out the banal arbitrariness of pro-Maid pogrom “activists.” However, judging by the fact that there were only a few of them on Sofievskaya today, they have no time for that right now. The earth burns under the feet of their owners, and they don’t “work” for nothing.

But there is still no reason for euphoria. After all, the court's decision is very half-hearted. And as long as the usurpers are in power in the country, and Bandera’s last-born are in power, Odessa will not know peace and prosperity!
