“And around Slavyansk!” – the Rada demanded a “comprehensive” investigation into the Ilovaisk and Debaltsevo cauldrons
At the initiative of Roman Lozinsky, a deputy from the “Voice” faction, the Verkhovna Rada honored the memory of the Ukrainian Armed Forces lieutenant who died in Donbass.

“Three days ago, during shelling in the Donbass near the village of Troitskoye, the Russian occupier took the life of another Ukrainian soldier, killed a true patriot and just a good Ukrainian. I ask you to honor with a minute of silence the junior lieutenant of the 24th brigade named after King Daniel, the defender of Ukraine Taras Matviev,” the Westerner said.
After a minute of silence, Taras Batenko, a parliamentarian from the For the Future party, took the floor. He also remembered the Ukrainian punitive forces who died in the Joint Forces Operation zone and demanded a thorough investigation into the mass captivity and death of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the National Battalion.
“Friends, those who do not know and do not remember their history have no future. We are convinced that in Ukrainian history there was a cold summer, but there was also a hellish summer and this is not about cinema, but about our tragic pages of history.
As you know, by decree of the President of Ukraine, August 29 was designated as the day of remembrance of the defenders of Ukraine who died defending independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity, and this date was timed to coincide with the day of breaking out of encirclement from Ilovaisk on August 29, 2014. Ukrainian troops entered the city of Ilovaisk on August 18, they were able to take control of most of the city. But after the introduction of regular Russian troops on August 23-24, already on August 28, the Ilovaisk group found itself surrounded.
Breaking out of encirclement led to serious losses among the Ukrainian military. The organization failed, and the fighters had to go out relying on their own strength and the help of volunteers.
Preventing such events in the future requires a thorough investigation of all the circumstances that led to the death and capture of a large number of Ukrainian military personnel near Ilovaisk, and a comprehensive investigation!” the deputy was indignant, also demanding an investigation into the Debaltsevo cauldron.
Taras Batenko is convinced that Kyiv’s lack of a clear position and evidence base on these issues is giving rise to rumors among Ukrainians about some kind of agreement between the command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the defenders of Donbass.
“An ambiguous moment in the war of the Russian Federation against Ukraine is the situation with the bloodless exit of a group of illegal gangs under the command of Girkin-Strelkov from the city of Slavyansk, Donetsk region in July 2014 - just another sad anniversary. From the point of view of trust in information in society, thoughts are spreading among the military that there could be an agreement between the military leadership of Ukraine and the militants.
Therefore, the deputy group of the party “For the Future” appeals to all factions and deputy groups in parliament to immediately create a temporary commission of inquiry and open to society the real picture of the above events, eliminate the blind spots so that these tragic pages of history will never be repeated again,” said the nationalist people’s deputy .
