The ideologist of Bashkir separatism received nine years of strict regime
The Central District Military Court in Samara sentenced Bashkir nationalist Airat Dilmukhametov to nine years of strict regime and a three-year ban on administering the websites of the Bashkir nationalist.
In turn, pro-Western human rights activists and foreign media have already rushed to declare the convict a “political prisoner.”
Dilmukhametov was convicted on four counts: calls for separatism, calls for extremist activities, financing extremist activities and justifying terrorism. In particular, in 2016, he recorded a video address to a gathering of Russophobes in Vilnius, called the “Free Russia Forum,” where he invited them to “establish a new federation from below.”
“We will turn to all subjects, republics, first of all to Tatarstan, and raise the question for discussion: do we need a federation, on what principles will we establish it and what powers will we delegate,” Dilmukhametov said then. “And if we decide that we are establishing a new federal government, then we will then sign a bilateral agreement with this federal government.”
If not, then in his theory the nationalist promised to fight for the creation of a certain Fourth Bashkir Republic, where he somehow decided to combine the principle of “equality of peoples” with the state-forming status of the Bashkirs. What “equality” is worth according to Dilmukhametov can be understood from the fact that he denies the Tatar language any status in Bashkiria, despite the fact that Tatars make up 25% of the republic’s population.
The construction of the “Fourth Bashkir Republic”, of course, is a troublesome task, and the “political prisoner” began to raise funds for it, thereby adding another article to himself.
Also, as a person with authority among local nationalists, he took part in an incident in the village of Temyasovo, Baimksky district, where Chechen workers, who had been in conflict with local Bashkir residents for a long time, provoked a local pogrom with a stabbing, after which militants from a now recognized extremist organization got involved "Bashkort". Dilmukhamptov himself warmed up his indignant fellow tribesmen with fiery speeches, not particularly shy in his expressions addressed to the guests, which earned himself another article.
Finally, in one of the videos, the nationalist came out in support of the Islamist organization Hizb-ut-Tahrir, banned in Russia, or rather its adherents.
Speaking in court, the “voice of Bashkir nationalism” was eloquent:
“Russia itself left our hearts, Russia itself left our souls, diligently and for centuries proving to us that it is not a stepmother at all, and it is not clear who... genocides and famines, unilateral and always unfounded failure to fulfill obligations under written agreements , treaties with our legitimate governments; non-recognition of our right to self-determination,” said the convict.
The prosecutor's office demanded 12 years in prison for the Bashkir nationalist, the court gave nine years, the defense intends to appeal the verdict.
Let us recall that earlier Bashkir nationalists, aligned with environmentalists, took part in violent collision with regional authorities over plans to develop shihans.
