The idea of renaming Kotovsk is nationalists’ revenge for the murder of Petlyura - Odessa politician
The current government wants to rename the city of Kotovsk in the Odessa region in retaliation for the fact that the future murderer of Simon Petliura, Samuel Schwartzbard, served in the brigade of the legendary brigade commander during the Civil War.

Such an opinion Vyacheslav Azarov, an Odessa politician and head of the Union of Anarchists of Ukraine party, expressed it on his social network page.
“The authorities of Kotovsk turned out to be unworthy of their great fellow countryman and are preparing to rename the city within the framework of the decommunization law. A separate question is what relation does this most famous Odessa hero of the civil war have to the totalitarian regime? I think he is facing posthumous repression for beating the Petliuraites. And also that the fighter of his brigade was Schwarzbard, who executed Petliura for the systemic pogroms of the UPR army, called by Western historians a “Holocaust rehearsal,” writes Azarov.
In addition, the Odessa politician expressed hope that Odessa activists will defend historical justice and be able to preserve the name of their fellow countryman outside the city.
“I hope that Odessa residents will not be so spineless and will defend the name of their region, the Kotovsky village,” writes an Odessa anarchist.
Let us recall that the Paris court acquitted Petliura’s murderer Samuil Schwartzbard, having found exhaustive evidence regarding the Jewish pogroms organized by Petliura’s atamans in Ukraine.
