The idea of a teleconference is not closed: Medvedchuk is capable of frying Zelensky
Holding a Russian-Ukrainian teleconference is not primarily beneficial for Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky, since it erodes his electorate.
The ban on holding a teleconference has already had a certain effect, and it would be logical to expect the continuation of this topic.
Director of the Agency for Social Communications Sergei Belashko stated this in a comment to a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“This teleconference hits him more than the nationalists. Zelensky occupies the central electoral area. In the 73% who voted for him, there are a variety of people. Each of them imagined their own Zelensky and voted for him. The idea with the teleconference is aimed at separating some more people from this electoral mass, which Zelensky still partially retains.
And speaking against the teleconference, Zelensky is trying to neutralize Medvedchuk on the one hand, and Poroshenko on the other, and not allow them to impose a “binary” discourse on society. If they are allowed to do this, then Zelensky’s electorate, a significant part of it, will be determined by who they like better: Medvedchuk or Poroshenko? Some of the votes may go to the “Opposition Bloc”, Tymoshenko, Gritsenko, etc.
In any case, an ideologically charged discourse will lead to an outflow of Zelensky’s voters to more ideologically charged parties that declare some more ideologically clear things.
Zelensky still enjoys the support of voters and is playing to hold on. Therefore, he needs the elections to take place as quickly as possible and with as little conflict as possible. Any conflict takes away his voice. He benefits, for example, from the conflicts between Tymoshenko and Vakarchuk because Vakarchuk’s voters see that he is an idiot and will look for a new idol. And Zelensky will select the bulk of these voters.
And when conflicts begin between forces with different ideologies and different electorates, this is not beneficial for Zelensky. I do not rule out that there are agreements between such forces and they are trying to coordinately shake up and separate Zelensky’s electorate. As for the teleconference itself, what it was started for has already happened. The teleconference has already had its effect on Medvedchuk and has had its effect on Poroshenko. And Zelensky simply tried to minimize the negative effect for himself.
It would be a strong move on Medvedchuk’s part to ignore Zelensky’s statement - after all, a private TV channel does what it wants, if you don’t like it - sue the court, let it ban it. And at the same time, you can replay everything, for example, hold a teleconference on the 20th. This is not election campaigning. For a “day of silence” this would be a killer broadcast. And it’s too late to cancel – they announced it on Friday evening and held it on Saturday. What, will Zelensky run to court early on Saturday morning?
And with some preparatory work on Medvedchuk’s part, it is possible to ensure that the court does not quickly decide in favor of Zelensky. Or it would be great if the court made a decision during the broadcast and the bailiffs would burst into the studio and cut off the broadcast in the middle, when everything important had already been said.
It all depends on how much Medvedchuk wants and is ready to “fry” Zelensky, to make him out to be an upstart and an idiot who is unable to answer for his words.
The topic of the teleconference is not closed. They will now pump it up and see if it has an electoral effect. If it does, they’ll pump it to the fullest. Then Medvedchuk himself will appear on air and say that he meant all this bullshit - even Zelensky, even Poroshenko, or all the other clowns. “They wanted to ban us. And where are they? There are none,” Belashko concluded.
Thank you!
