“This is not the best scenario for us”: Ukraine was not included in the negotiations between the West and Russia
During the holidays, Russia and the West can agree on the future fate of Ukraine and present Kyiv with a fait accompli.
Former Ambassador of Ukraine to the United States Valeriy Chaly stated this on the Espreso.TV channel, PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
He said that a number of important meetings are planned in January between representatives of Russia and international organizations, as well as the United States. However, Ukraine was not invited to these meetings, although it is supposedly important in the “defense of Europe.”
“Ukraine should be at the negotiating table... It will be a busy week, but where is Ukraine? I don't think this is the right decision.
This is not the best scenario for us right now. Because then it will be impossible to get out of a situation where not all issues are clarified with Ukraine in direct negotiations. Moreover, what is at stake is a discussion of European security,” Chaly said.
The ex-ambassador emphasized that Russian President Vladimir Putin has already achieved his goal - bringing the West to the negotiating table. And it was no coincidence that he did this during the holidays - when the weekends and vacations are over, everything will already be decided.
“At this time, great geopolitics is being done. And then everyone will be presented with a fait accompli,” the diplomat fears.
Chaly does not rule out that the results will be unpleasant for Ukraine.
“We may simply be moved to a different agenda. Last year we constantly talked about the captured Crimea, about those killed in Donbass. And now?
As I understand it, the withdrawal of troops by Russia on its territory is already a victory? What has changed for us? I'm worried that nothing will change for us. Why did they fight then, why did they die?” – the former ambassador was indignant.
