Lukashenko, who ignores the coronavirus, does not understand why they are closing themselves off from Belarus
President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko continues to be indignant that Russia has closed the border with Belarus.
He stated this today in an interview with the Mir television and radio company, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“I understand if some terrible situation arose there and urgent measures had to be taken. But there was no logic then. In Belarus the situation was no worse than in Russia - much better. I insist that it is no worse today. Secondly, why cut off from this Union State the main part where there are no problems. And at the same time, they did not divide the country (and Russia is huge) into parts in order to block the movement of people and carriers of the coronavirus. This was the usual bungling. What about the formula “a friend in need is a friend in need?” – Lukashenko’s official website quotes him as saying.
Previously disgruntled Belarusian leader already claimed that “Russia is on fire”, when the incidence rate there was 9 times lower than in Belarus, even according to official statistics. The Russian government then had to issue an official refutation.
However, no one believes official Belarusian statistics. The media publish data from doctors from the regions, which is hundreds of times higher than the figures used by the Belarusian Ministry of Health. It is alleged that doctors are prohibited from making certain diagnoses and conducting tests for people with pneumonia.
All this led Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda and Foreign Minister Linas Linkevicius to say that they do not trust official Belarusian statistics, since Lukashenko assesses the situation “with some bravado.” All remaining flights between Minsk and Vilnius were canceled (Belarus did not close any of its borders).
The head of the World Health Organization (WHO) country office in Belarus, Batyr Berdyklychev, complained about the poor work of the Belarusian Ministry of Health in informing the population about the situation with coronavirus.
By andinsider information from a reserve colonel Vladimir Trukhan Russia initially planned to create a common sanitary and epidemiological contour with Belarus, but since Lukashenko pointedly ignored all anti-epidemic measures, this had to be abandoned.
