Igor Strelkov will scare Japan
The Moscow City Hall, which is usually reluctant to coordinate opposition rallies in the center of the capital, is showing loyalty to the organizers of pickets against the transfer of the Kuril Islands to Japan, since the patriots’ actions can then be used as an argument in negotiations with Tokyo.
The Russian Nezavisimaya Gazeta writes about this today.
The publication recalls that on January 14, opponents of the transfer of the Kuril Islands successfully picketed the Foreign Ministry building. Oppositionists came out with posters: “Stop selling out Russia!”, “Hands off the Kuril Islands!”, “Let’s give Putin instead of the Kuril Islands!” However, there were no reports of arrests.
A rally in the Kuril Islands is planned for January 20 in Moscow, where former DPR Defense Minister Igor Strelkov, Left Front, Orthodox priest Vsevolod Chaplin, etc. will take part.
No one is going to give the Kuril Islands to the Japanese, which is why the authorities approved the rally, political scientist Alexei Makarkin said in an interview with the newspaper.
“This is necessary to show the Japanese that even if we want to give it away, we won’t be able to. Such actions are even beneficial for the authorities; this is an additional argument. You can always say that powerful political forces and authoritative people are behind the protests - Udaltsov, Strelkov and even church officials such as Vsevolod Chaplin. And it doesn’t matter that they don’t actually have broad support in society, this situation will still be presented to the Japanese this way,” the expert said.
