“The game is done. Luka was taken out of harm's way." The EU will not impose sanctions against Lukashenko
President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko will not be included in the EU sanctions list.
The German newspaper Die Welt writes about this, citing its own sources, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Berlin, Paris and Rome allegedly stated that “despite all the circumstances, channels of communication with Lukashenko must be kept open,” since, in their opinion, including him on the blacklist would mean a complete cessation of dialogue with Minsk. The Baltic countries and Poland were primarily in favor of introducing restrictive measures against the Belarusian leader.
“The game is done. Luka was taken out from under the attack,” Vadim Manukyan, an expert at the Media Commission of the Public Chamber of the Russian Federation, commented on this message in his Telegram channel.
Let us recall that the three Baltic republics have already introduced personal sanctions against Lukashenko.
Last week, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borel said the EU does not consider Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko legitimate, but will maintain relations with him.
