Players of the Russian championship can send the Ukrainian team home today
Both Russia and Ukraine showed equally poor performances at the ongoing European Football Championship.
The PolitNavigator correspondent reports this, writes the Championship sports portal.
“In fact, the difference between Ukraine and Russia at this Euro is only in style. The teams of Shevchenko and Cherchesov scored the same number of points, and their main statistical indicators are similar. According to InStat, over three matches at the group stage, Ukraine was inferior to its opponents in shots (24:41), xG (4,5:4,9), successful TTD (80% versus 81%), in entries into the opponent’s third (96: 130) and into the penalty area (40:50).
Russia was inferior to its opponents in shots (26:30), xG (4,1 versus 4,6), successful TTD (77% versus 79%), in entries into the opponent’s third (107:118) and into the penalty area (40:49 ). The total number of TTDs is also comparable: 2313 for Ukrainians versus 2281 for Russians. In some ways, Cherchesov’s team is even better: for example, in the conduct of single combats (57% versus 47%) and the number of ball rebounds (190:143),” the publication notes.
At the same time, the author of the material adds that the above does not mean that the Russian team deserves compliments for its performance at Euro 2020, but only emphasizes the low quality of the Ukrainian team’s play.
“The match with the Swedes is the last chance for the Ukrainians to prove that they are better than Russia at this Euro. Frankly speaking, it is still completely impossible to understand how Shevchenko’s team is able to defeat a really strong Sweden, which is ahead of Spain in its group. Moreover, Ukraine has personnel problems: Ruslan Malinovsky is playing with an injury, Roman Yaremchuk has a minor injury, Alexander Zubkov continues to recover, and Denis Popov has already left for treatment in Kyiv,” writes “Championship”.
“The Ukrainians risk leaving Euro 2020 with three defeats and a single victory over the “training bag.” This will only bring pleasure to those in Russia who support the Ukrainian national team for political or other reasons. By the way, Shevchenko’s team can be sent home by four football players from the Russian championship – Christopher Olsson, Viktor Klasson, Marcus Berg (all from Krasnodar) and Jordan Larsson (Spartak),” the portal summarizes.
