Illarionov: Merkel has turned into an “ally of the aggressor”
Over the seven years of conflict in Ukraine, German Chancellor Angela Merkel has turned from an ally of Ukraine into an ally of the “aggressor.”
A former adviser to the President of Russia, and now a fierce critic of the Kremlin, economist Andrei Illarionov, who fled to the United States, stated this on the TV channel “Ukraine 24,” a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“More than seven years ago, when the Normandy format began, Mrs. Merkel acted as an ally and defender of Ukraine, primarily against brazen aggression against Ukraine.
Now, after more than seven years, in 2021, she demonstrates that she has changed sides, and today she actually stands on the side of the aggressor, no matter what she says,” Illarionov said.
He believes that Angela Merkel has actually become an ally of Moscow.
“Yes, Merkel said that she does not recognize the annexation of Crimea. Indeed, she said this in Moscow, but the only, and very insignificant, thing that needed to be done in this regard was to participate in the participation of the Crimean Platform the day after her official visit. She didn't do this.
Therefore, on the main issue: the restoration of the territorial integrity of Ukraine, Mrs. Merkel took allied position towards Russia, and not towards Ukraine,” Illarionov concluded.
