Illarionov: The United States agreed to force Ukraine to implement the Minsk agreements

Former adviser to the Russian President Andrei Illarionov, who emigrated to the United States and became a critic of the Kremlin, stated this on the TV channel Ukraine 24, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“What is the main topic in possible negotiations? Biden and Putin? They will definitely discuss Ukraine. The last high-level meeting of the CIA director with Patrushev and Naryshkin, and his telephone conversation with Putin, and his presence in Moscow for two days is an unusual event,” Illarionov said.
“This means that they discussed something and reached certain agreements. Some of the light achieved during all these meetings with Nuland and other high American officials is shed by Putin’s words at a recent meeting with the leadership of the Russian Foreign Ministry, when Putin, addressing Lavrov, said: “It is necessary to contact our Western partners to obtain security guarantees on western border of Russia." On Russia’s western border are Ukraine and Belarus,” the ex-adviser said.
He noted that there are changes in the Kremlin’s official rhetoric that indicate that the United States will provide Russia with security guarantees regarding the situation in Ukraine and Belarus.
“It should be noted that this is a radical departure from the official position of the current Russian leadership, according to which Russia’s main allies are its army and navy. Suddenly, when relations with Western countries are at the lowest level, when there is no trust, suddenly Putin turns to Lavrov with an order to receive security guarantees, this can only happen if preliminary agreements on the provision of security guarantees have already been received,” the expert believes.
“Now Lavrov remains, after some time, to carry out one more stage of the theatrical performance - to report to Putin: “We have done this work, and Western partners are providing guarantees.” Such guarantees may be formalized at the upcoming summit between Biden and Putin,” Illarionov added.
Also, the ex-adviser emphasized that the United States, for promising Russia not to attack, will force Ukraine to implement Minsk agreements.
“There is a serious suspicion that in addition to Biden’s refusal to allow Ukraine to join NATO, this will be supplemented by demands for Ukraine to accept the Minsk agreements as interpreted by Putin, as well as the granting of political autonomy to ORDLO. This is what Putin proposed, and the American administration agreed. One gets the impression that in exchange for this, Putin may make a promise that he will not carry out a large-scale offensive for some time.
